What gender are spirits in Heaven? Are they males, females or both? These questions seem unimportant, but answers will bring some understanding to those who are going through a rough experience in their lives and struggle to find a solution regarding certain things that happen in spiritual realms.
Some people assume that God, Jesus, Holy Spirit, and angels are all males and there are no female angels in Heaven. Others argue that there are both male and female angels and they can even produce baby angels. Many convinced there are no gender differences in Heaven, everyone is sexless and can't produce baby angels.
In what form a new creation of glorified bodies will exist? It is difficult to imagine a gender in the new creation without some form of attraction between male and female. It is impossible to ignore the existence of some form of a “union” even without procreation/marriage.
Created in His Image
After God was done creating Earth and everything on it, He then decided to make a man:
Let us make a man in our image, after our likeness. (Genesis 1:26)God decided to create a man in the perfect image of Elohim. God was talking about Himself in a plural form that could mean that Elohim is more than one Being in one body, or simply a Being in both male and female forms.
In the Bible, God is perceived as being exclusively male, but Elohim is both Divine Masculine and Divine Feminine. In the original Hebrew of the Bible, the name Elohim is a feminine word (Eloah- Goddess) with a masculine plural suffix (-im). In Hebrew, the -aoh, -oh, or -ah suffix makes a word feminine. In Aramaic, the word Abwoon is similarly gender-combined, meaning “Father-Mother.”
El (masculine) + Eloah (feminine) + im (plurality) = Elohim - Male and Female.
God created man in his own image, in the image of God created He him; male and female created He them. (Genesis 1:27) Male and female created He them; and blessed them, and called their name Adam, in the day when they were created. (Genesis 5:1)
Thus, if God is male and female, the Mother and the Father, then Adam (which translates as "Mankind") must also have originally been male and female in one body. To be otherwise would have been unbalanced, and thus imperfect. However, it would be inaccurate to refer to God or Adam as “she” or divine feminine, so a correct way is to use a male gender for the reference.
Then God noticed that Adam was lonely and decided to create a woman for him:
And the Lord God said, it is not good that the man should be alone; I will make him a helper. (Genesis 2:18)
Elohim put Adam into a deep sleep and created a woman out of his rib.
The Bible is not clear whether The Garden of Eden was spiritual, physical or something in-between place. Thus if God is a Spirit (in Genesis 1:2 the Spirit of God moved upon the face of the waters), Adam was created in His image. Other unreliable sources outside of the Bible, such as the “Book of Adam and Eve”, also confirm that The Garden of Eden was a spiritual realm:
But when I heard of your transgression, I deprived you of that bright light. Yet, of My mercy, I did not turn you into darkness, but I made you your body of flesh, over which I spread this skin, in order that it may bear cold and heat. (The Book of Adam and Eve, 13:7)According to this passage, God made Adam’s body mortal after his transgression, but eventually promised Adam to bring him back to the Kingdom of Heaven:
Indeed I say to you, this darkness will pass from you, every day I have determined for you until the fulfillment of My covenant; when I will save you and bring you back again into the Garden, into the house of light you long for, in which there is no darkness. I will bring you to it -- in the Kingdom of Heaven. (The Book of Adam and Eve 14:2)
According to the Talmud, Adam and Eve were created as a single male/female being with two faces. The subsequent creation of Eve was actually the splitting of the male and female into two separate parts. The Zohar records a tradition about the descendants of Cain, stating that they were born with two heads.
The Adda Seal
It is quite difficult to imagine a creature with two faces. If this is something hard to visualize, check out Ezekiel’s vision of four living creatures in Heaven with more complex body structure:
They had a face of a man, face of a lion, a face of an ox and face of an eagle. (Ezekiel 1:6)In the vision, the creatures had not two, but four faces and four wings.
Sons of God and Daughters of MenIn Genesis 6 there was a story of descended sons of God who came unto the daughters of men and took them as wives. If there were female angels in the spirit realms, why did sons of God come unto the earthly women? Did they decide to “forsake” their female angels and get earthly women instead? If so, why they did it?
Once again, “Elohim” translates into English as “God” and it is actually a gender-combined word that represents both Unity and Divine plurality. There is no duality in Heaven and everything exists in perfect oneness and unity.
There are different levels of Heaven (2 Corinthians 12:2) and multidimensional worlds where spiritual beings reside temporarily before moving on to the next level.
Unlike the other lower dimensions, top Heavenly realms don’t have separation of males and females as they are all united in perfect harmony and oneness. There is no chasing of female angels by male angels in Heaven since they don’t sin and follow certain rules applicable to only these dimensions. These rules may not be applicable to the other dimensions, as there are many multidimensional worlds where beings reside temporarily.
Things are completely different for the physical dimension on Earth with time and duality being introduced at the beginning of the creation. Males and females were separated for reproduction purposes. Similar to Adam’s story, sons of God transgressed God’s laws and downgraded themselves from being Holy Angels into the fallen ones.
The multitude in Heaven Revelation 7: 9 describes a scene that will take place at some point in the future:
After this I beheld, and, lo, a great multitude, which no man could number, of all nations, and kindreds, and people, and tongues, stood before the throne, and before the Lamb, clothed with white robes…These are they which came out of great tribulation, and have washed their robes, and made them white in the blood of the Lamb.
Revelation 14:3 passage is also describing a similar (or the same) event:
…and no man could learn that song but the hundred and forty and four thousand, which were redeemed from the earth. These are they that were not defiled with women for they are virgins. These are they that follow the Lamb whithersoever he goeth. These were redeemed from among men, being the firstfruits unto God and to the Lamb.
Revelation 7 and Revelation 14 describe the same or two different events at some point in the future. Both passages have the description of a multitude from all nations redeemed from the Earth.
In the second passage, there is a certain statement that the hundred and forty and four thousand are not defiled with women for they are virgins. Notice that are no descriptive words such as “people”, “men”, “males” or “females” to describe these beings, but the description only contains “these are they”, “firstfruits” and “no man could learn that song”. This is a good indication they are not regular people anymore, but advanced beings with divine virgin bodies not defiled with women.
In addition, the “defiled with women” statement brings us back to the story of the sons of God who have sinned and defiled themselves with earthly women in Genesis 6. So, here again, this particular group of firstfruits will wash their robes, come out of great tribulation and be finally redeemed.
Therefore if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creature; the old things passed away; behold, new things have come. (2 Corinthians 5:17)
But how we should call these firstfruits? Are they masculine or feminine? The correct way is to use a masculine pronoun similar to Adam’s prototype where Adam is both, male and female.
When You Make Two Into One
The Gospel of Thomas is another interesting source to study. Thomas copied a lot of scriptures from others apostles such as Luke. Robert M. Grant and David Noel Freedman provided commentaries about some passages in the Gospel of Thomas:
Positive proof that he did so [copy from the canonical gospels] seems to be provided in Saying 14. The statement about healing the sick has nothing to do with the context in Thomas; it is relevant only in Luke's collection of sayings. Therefore, Thomas copied it from Luke.
Jesus saw some babies nursing. He said to his disciples, "These nursing babies are like those who enter the (Father's) kingdom."
They said to him, "Then shall we enter the (Father's) kingdom as babies?" Jesus said to them:
When you make the two into one, and when you make the inner like the outer and the outer like the inner, and the upper like the lower, and when you make male and female into a single one, so that the male will not be male nor the female be female, when you make eyes in place of an eye, a hand in place of a hand, a foot in place of a foot, an image in place of an image, then you will enter [the kingdom].
I shall choose you, one from a thousand and two from ten thousand, and they will stand as a single one. (The Gospel of Thomas 22-23)
Early church fathers have excluded certain things from the Bible they didn’t understand. The Gospel of Thomas was too confusing to them because it was talking about some complex issues such as a twin flame union - the union of Feminine and Masculine aspects of a soul.
I believe The Gospel of Thomas contains a genuine message from Jesus because for the first-century people (and even the modern men) it was hard to understand such a complex topic about glorified bodies or divine marriage of Male and Female.
No Marriage after the ResurrectionWhile many Christian women have no issue following Jesus and having a personal relationship with him, some men don’t feel comfortable with an idea of the personal relationship because of lack of understanding as what this “relationship” is all about. As a result, the majority of the Jesus followers are women.
What exactly the marriage of the Lamb is? Does this mean that the multitude redeemed from the Earth will actually marry Jesus? The correct way to address this question is to say that this multitude would not marry Jesus; they will be married in Jesus.
In Galatians 3:28-29 Paul described what to expect at the wedding of the Lamb:
There is neither Jew nor Greek, there is neither bond nor free, there is neither male nor female: for you are all one in Christ Jesus.
In addition, Paul says almost exactly the same thing in Colossians but omits the male and female part.
In the age to come, there is no need to “be fruitful and multiply”. There is no need for the perpetuation of humanity since there will be no adding or subtracting to the number in Heaven.
In Luke 20:34-35, Matthew 22:30 and Mark 12:25, Jesus said that in the resurrection from the dead, there will be no marriage anymore because the redeemed multitude from the Earth will be like Holy Angels in Heaven.
Glorified BodiesIn Daniel 8:9 there was a vision about a great “little horn” that presented itself great even to the host of Heaven. It cast down some of the host and of the star to the ground and stamped upon them. The casted down stars are the sons of God. (Revelation 12:4)
Corinthians 1:41 describes how everyone and everything created by God has its own kind of glory: “There is one glory of the sun, and another glory of the moon, and another glory of the stars; for star differs from star in glory.”
In the book of Revelation (chapters 21-22), it seems that God is making things not just like they were in the Garden of Eden, but even better. “Glorified bodies” will be imperishable, honorable, and powerful. The new bodies will no longer be human bodies, but “spiritual” bodies that are one with the Holy Spirit.
The unity of the spiritual bodies is not possible without the Holy Spirit!
The imperishable bodies that will no longer suffer from sickness and death, nor will they ever experience heat and cold, hunger and thirst. The new bodies will be honorable, sinless in nature and clothed in white garments. These bodies will have a certain form and ability to travel to different places (John 20:19,26; Luke 24:39).
Flesh and blood cannot inherit the kingdom of God, only immortal and spiritual bodies will able to do so:
Flesh and blood cannot inherit the kingdom of God, nor does the perishable inherit the imperishable. We shall not all sleep, but we shall all be changed, in a moment, in the twinkling of an eye, at the last trumpet. For the trumpet will sound, and the dead will be raised imperishable, and we shall be changed. For this perishable body must put on the imperishable, and this mortal body must put on immortality. (1 Corinthians 1:51-54)
We live in a world of duality and separation. We are spiritually separated from God, we are separated from our masculine or our feminine aspects of a soul. I believe that Twin souls -our brothers and sisters - currently serve as guarding angels waiting for us in Heavens to come back. They help us and guide us in every way possible. I believe in incarnation and birth into the bodies of male or female to experience different realities for a limited time. When the time is up, there will be a Judgment day for everybody. The final decision has to be made on what type of body we will get next.
Sometimes a Twin soul is incarnated at the same time in both male and female bodies. From the personal knowledge I can tell that this is a very hard experience to go through and this topic deserves a separate article.
There will be marriage in the age to come, but only one: between God and his people. At the wedding of the Lamb, we shall see Jesus in his final glorified body:
Beloved, now are we the sons of God, and it doth not yet appear what we shall be: but we know that, when he shall appear, we shall be like him; for we shall see him as he is. (1 John 3:2 )
The marriage in Heaven is a unity between Jesus and his church, the marriage of masculine and feminine aspects of the soul in Jesus, the unity of Twin souls who have been separated for eons and finally reunited.
